Celebrating Kakadu National Park's incredible birdlife

Kakadu Bird Week is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2021 with a clutch of wonderful bird-related activities.
From September 25 to October 2, birdwatching tours, cultural workshops, ranger-guided walks and cruises to see Kakadu’s famous wetland birds will have visitors twitching with excitement.
Kakadu National Park Tourism and Visitor Services Manager Anja Toms said it was the event’s 10th year and park rangers were encouraging people to duck-in to the park to celebrate the milestone.
“Kakadu is a bird lover’s paradise with more than one-third of Australia’s bird species calling the dual-World Heritage listed national park home,” Ms Toms said.
“Kakadu Bird Week takes place at the height of birdwatching season each year. Kurrung - late dry season - is a great time to see Kakadu’s birdlife at its peak. This is a great opportunity for the whole family to join Bininj/Mungguy traditional owners, 
leading bird experts and research scientists to experience the wonders of Kakadu’s birdlife. 
“It is a spectacular time of year to visit Kakadu, and for eagle-eyed visitors, it is the perfect season to see the park’s birdlife and wildlife.
“Despite the continuing impacts of the pandemic, we are building on the success of last year’s event by including an array of on-ground Indigenous activities with bird-related themes.
“For those that can make it to Kakadu, we are looking forward to welcoming visitors and encourage them to swoop on some of the accommodation deals being offered for the event.”
Kakadu is home to more than 280 bird species including waterbirds, birds of prey and some of the most beautiful birds in Australia - including blue-winged kookaburras, partridge pigeons, rainbow bee-eaters and azure kingfishers.
