Investing in Gunbalanya Youth Centre

27 August 2021

West Arnhem Regional Council (WARC) have invested in upgrades to the Gunbalanya Youth Centre with the works now complete.

The Gunbalanya Youth Centre is an important part of the Gunbalanya community which functions as a safe, multipurpose facility for young people to engage in activities, events and programs.

With the upgrades to the inside of the building, the space is even more inviting and a great place to carry out additional activities.

One of the most exciting parts of the upgrades includes the installation of new laminate flooring throughout to replace the former vinyl flooring. The new flooring is very modern and hardwearing and will withstand many knocks for many years.

The upgrades also include the installation of a stainless steel kitchenette with a stainless steel under bench oven fitted, including a mobile servery bench. This will allow the youths to prepare light, easy meals for themselves which can prove as a fun, educational activity while under the supervision of the WARC Youth, Sport and Recreation team.

Other furniture added to the space include:

-2 new cherry leather new couches
-lockers and flip-top tables for storage
-chairs, coffee tables and an entertainment unit
-Fold out sofa beds

Some fantastic new gaming equipment will also be added to the centre including:

A new PlayStation
-Xbox
-Nintendo 6
-Virtual reality goggles
-2 new televisions

WARC Youth Sport and Recreation Team Leader Kellum Steele said the community is very happy with the outcome.

“The youth in the community are excited about using the centre which is looking great,” he said.

The upgrades were funded from the WARC capital reserve.
