J-MILLA song and video collaboration project

05 December 2022

J MILLA performed in Maningrida and what a concert is was! Everyone involved is now awaiting the release of the song and video, so stay tuned!
The concert was part of a song & video collaboration project with J-MILLA, delivered by Mala'la's Family & Community Wellness Services. The project saw some of Maningrida's young people be a voice for their generation and talk about youth offending - a controversial and persistent issue.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our young people and this is what one of them had to say:
“The best part of the weekend was taking Jo out to Nardilmuk to do flips, hunt for fish and stingrays, having a big laugh with the boys and start dancing.
This project was important because I want to make my family proud and happy of me from doing this big thing, doing hard work, talking with Nja-marleya leaders, writing lyrics for everybody in Maningrida. Some teenagers and little kids to bad things when their family isn’t there for them, they break in. this song is like a voice for all young people of Maningrida. Some young people have no help, we need Maningrida to help the young people.”
This concert, as well as the Song & Video Collaboration project, would not have been possible without the support of so many people, but a special thank you must go to Jessie Philips (Cultural Hub coordinator), Sarah (Maningrida College), Ethan, Loki and the team of West Arnhem Regional Council, the Nja-marleya Cultural Leaders and Justice Group and Iona Roy, Noeletta and the Community Safety Patrol team, Bec Bates, Ian McLay (MPA), Melisango from Greats Youth Services, Stedmans Constructions and Stronger Communities for Children.
