Minjilang Community Care Centre opening

27 August 2021

West Arnhem Regional Council’s (WARC) Community Care team in Minjilang officially opened the new Community Care space in early August.

This was a very exciting event with the clients and guests enjoying a special morning tea cooked and prepared by Community Care staff.

The highlight was picking the vegetables from the Community Care garden for the first time. Margaret Allgood who was the mastermind behind this project, had the pleasure of cutting the first cucumber. A big thank you to WARC Council Service Manager Cathy Makings who proudly opened the Community Care Space.

The aged and disability clients in Minjilang now have a fantastic area to meet up, share meals and do activities.

Clients Henry Yarmirr and Charlie Mangulda assisted with presenting the vegies that were grown in the garden, and all clients participated in discussions of ongoing activities that we could assist with and some really good ideas and plans were made.

The day was special in many ways, and there were mixed feelings of excitement, pleasure, joy and sadness. Cathy Makings presented a gift from Community Care to Margaret, and thanked her for all she has achieved in getting the kitchen up to standard, the vegie patch and fruit garden blooming and providing a fantastic space for Community Care.

Staff and clients were also introduced to Lajane Nicholls who has taken on the role as Wellbeing Coordinator in the community. It was a great opportunity for Lajane to meet the clients and staff and also to meet the wonderful Minjilang team.
