Territory Day celebrations across West Arnhem

10 September 2021

Territory Day saw great celebrations in Maningrida, Jabiru and Warruwi on Sunday, August 29.
In Maningrida, a big thank you goes to Ben from AFLNT for hosting some really fun games with the kids, including longest footy kick, tug of war and the classic egg and spoon race.
The entire community enjoyed a big barbeque before the spectacular fireworks display.
Thank you to all who assisted with the event and the Northern Territory Government; it would not have been possible without your help.
Hosted by West Arnhem Regional Council, the Territory Day celebration in Jabiru was a whole-of-community event with plenty of family fun on offer.
This included an outdoor movie night with a cinema setup featuring deck chairs, a jumping castle, sausage sizzle, and of course the amazing fireworks display.
While the town plaza is usually quiet on a Sunday night, the whole area was buzzing with a great turn out of locals and visitors. Thank you to everyone who volunteered and supported the event.
West Arnhem Regional Council wishes to thank Sodexo, Red Lily, Jabiru Foodland the Northern Territory Government for supporting this event.
Territory Day in Warruwi included a community celebration which attracted more than 100 people who enjoyed sports, a barbecue and a glow stick disco.
West Arnhem Regional Council’s Wellbeing Coordinator Leah Holt Narul said, “I would like to thank my team for all the hard work and effort we all put in for celebrating Territory Day. Emma and Ida and also our volunteers for taking the time to lend their helping hands.”
Territory Day is a chance for Territorians to celebrate this incredible place we call home.
Every year, the Territory comes alive with fireworks, concerts and community events to recognise the day the NT declared independence from the Commonwealth Government in 1978.
