West Arnhem inaugural community safety forum

19 May 2023

Recently, West Arnhem Regional Council’s (WARC) senior and experienced Community Safety team members travelled to Jabiru from across West Arnhem to attend the inaugural Community Safety Forum.

The Forum was held over 3 days to train in all things Community Safety, and for our teams to come together to discuss challenges, issues, and solutions for the Community Safety team.

The forum was organised by Tamzin France and Kellum France and their efforts must be mentioned and recognised; their contributions were exceptional.    The group were addressed by the CEO and A/DoOG who gave messages concerning the value to the organisation and Communities of the Night Patrol.

This was the inaugural forum for this group and it was obvious from the matters discussed, the building of comradery and the first time for the entire group meet their colleagues in Jabiru from the other sections on Council.

The feedback from the group has been terrific and we look forward to the continuation of these meetings into the future.

The team worked tirelessly over the 3 days brainstorming ideas and suggestions.  It was wonderful to see our teams bring their years of experience, care for their communities and fresh ideas to discuss solutions for very real issues faced every day in their communities

Training topics saw the team engage and train together, and covered data collection, mandatory reporting, community engagement and induction.

The Forum team continue to work together to create a Community Safety handbook for WARC staff.  They also created and implemented an agreement for all current and new staff to sign to work with Community Safety in our communities.

We had a special birthday surprise for one of our staff members and, to finish off the training, we all went on the Guluyambi cultural cruise.
