BAC providing additional support to homelands

16 April 2020

Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) have been returning residents to their homelands in a very important step to keep everyone safe and in their own homes on country.
Pictured (left and below) is BAC CEO Ingrid Stonhill visiting Kamarrang Jack Nawilil at Bolkdjam Homeland recently, who were ensuring Traditional Owners and their extended families are well-supported by all arms of BAC. BAC is working hard with all agencies in Maningrida to keep the community members safe.
BAC maintains 32 homelands, providing and maintaining power, water, housing, schools, and septic services with assistance from the NTG. BAC Rangers, Housing Team and others are currently out on the accessible homelands spraying weeds, cutting down wet season growth and doing general maintenance work. While it is a challenging time with so many workers on leave, this work is very important. The BAC Tucker Run provides weekly essential food deliveries and medication supplies, while the Art Centre staff are helping with Centrelink paperwork and cultural understanding of what is happening in the world.
