Excitement as Jabiru Beautification begins

20 November 2020

West Arnhem Regional Council Chief Executive Officer Daniel Findley says it is an exciting time in Jabiru as Council begins to deliver beautification projects within the town which will take place over the coming weeks.
The first project to get under way is improvements of the Town Plaza, including a refresh of current paintwork and garden beds, beginning Monday, November 23.
Funded by the Northern Territory Government and Director of National Parks, West Arnhem Regional Council (WARC) will be rolling out specific beautification works over the next 6 months which will support local tourism and enhance the visitor experience as Jabiru transitions to a tourism economy. Just as importantly, the project ideas have come from the community itself.
Working closely with the community and major stakeholders, WARC recently provided a platform for local residents to have their say about possible future projects in Jabiru, with multiple community info sessions and an online questionnaire. As a result of the consultation, WARC received an overwhelming response from the community with a huge number of public submissions.
Out of more than 120 submissions from the community, more than 70 rated these as the top two beautification projects:
- Town Plaza beautification
- new signage and way finding throughout town in English and Kunwinjku language, including audio, and a new ‘Welcome to Jabiru’ sign

Daniel said Council is excited to announce the projects and begin the beautification work immediately.
“WARC sought your ideas on projects which will drive local tourism while aligning with the Jabiru Masterplan. We are thrilled to see these plans take shape and get the community excited about our future,” he said.

“Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas for Jabiru beautification projects. While we can’t deliver all project ideas at once, we are thrilled that local residents have had their say as part of our future as a town and a community.”
WARC wish thank the Northern Territory Government and Director of National Parks for supporting the Jabiru beautification.
