Jabiru Bushtratz dominate inter-club matches

26 June 2020

With Covid-19 restrictions in the NT easing, the Bushratz JRUFC jumped at the opportunity to be proactive and give the young Bushratz an opportunity to showcase their silky skills by playing competitive rugby union games at Magela Oval in front of their friends, family and wider community members. For a large majority of families and community members this was the very first time they got to see the exceptional, exciting talent on show.
On Thursday, June 11 the first round of three Bushratz junior rugby union inter-club games was played, and players were split evenly into two teams in both grades, U10’s and U12’s, Bushratz green and Bushratz red. Each week the scene was set with perfect dry season weather conditions, freshly painted lines, new post pads and a barbecue ready to be fired up for the evening clashes.
By 4.30pm each week, the majority of players were pumped, full of adrenaline and rearing to go as they got excited about playing with and against their mates in front of family, friends and the wider community. As their boots and jerseys went on, the competitive juices started to flow.
By 4.50pm the U10’s players were eager to get out there and get stuck into each other as the crowed rolled in to enjoy the beautiful evenings while getting excited for the 5pm spectacle that lay ahead.
The U10’s played 9 vs 9 for each game each week on a half field (50m wide x 70m long). The games went for 40 minutes with 2 x 20 minute halves. Like the U10 games, the U12’s played 9 vs 9, however they opted to play on the full size field. The U12’s played 4 x 10 minute quarters to accommodate for the bigger field.
Both games each week did not disappoint as there was some high octane, scintillating, end to end play by all players. Throughout the three weeks, all players showed great attitude, skills, determination, resilience, team work and sportsmanship as they battled it out for community bragging rights.
All players had a blast and a lot of fun running around together which was the main focus and outcome of the Bushratz inter-club matches. There were a lot of tired players come full time each week.
All evenings have been a massive success with between 100 to 150 people (players and spectators) attend each game for all three weeks in a row. Everyone enjoyed fantastic rugby each week played and supported in great community spirit. Over the three weeks there were 40 players, male and female who kitted up and went into battle with and against their mates.
The Bushratz Rugby Union Club would like to thank all the parents, families and wider community members who came down to volunteer their time to help, watch and support these young players who got out there and had an absolute blast playing on home soil in-front their community. Organisers wish to thank you all for making all these nights such a great night for the players and spectators.
They look forward to seeing all players back at training during the first week of school in term 3.
