The first round of the 2015 Jabiru Mixed Netball competition had some keenly contested games. No game was closer than the first cab off the rank between JAS and last year’s champions, Kia Kaha. The teachers’ team gave Kia Kaha a lesson out on the court, getting over the line at the final whistle by just one point.

It was great to see last year’s new arrivals, Djibidjibi and Merle Merle, back for 2015, with the draw seeing the youngsters square off against each other in their first game of the season. Like many of the other teams, they still have some work to do adapting to the code, but both teams have plenty of talent. Djibidjibi were the winners this time, 16-10.

Dragonfly showed good skills against a hastily cobbled together Poruman, with creative passes and good speed around the court, but it wasn’t enough to keep Poruman at bay, going down 18-12.

Spotless put in a strong show against Pub Crawlers, scoring the most goals on the night (31-11) to place them on top of the ladder. We are yet to see Riff Raff in action this year, but they’ll be on court in Round 2 against JAS, who are shaping up as a  contender for the 2015 title.

If you’re coming down to watch the action - don’t forget the mozzie repellent! Games get underway from 6.15pm on Tuesdays at the Jabiru Sports and Social Club courts. See you there!
