Northern Land Council Planning and Development Workshop

04 March 2020

The Northern Land Council's (NLC) Regional Development Branch came together for the annual planning and development workshop in Jabiru recently.
The purpose of the workshop is for staff to understand the business, the role they play in the larger NLC team and providing our constituents and internal and external stakeholders with the best possible service.
Following a busy day at the meeting, a number of the NLC staff members participated in social soccer which held in Jabiru every Wednesday.
NLC’s Regional Office Network consists of 46 staff from 10 locations and a team which is approximately 65 per cent Indigenous. Many of the staff members are recruited from the local community in which they work.
Last financial year, the Regional Development Team managed 346 community consultations, consulted just over 7,200 Traditional Owners and individuals from Affected Groups, processed in excess of 14,000 land access permits and finalised 120 Land Use Agreements that will provide significant financial benefits to Traditional Owners over the coming years.
This calendar year, NLC have already programmed in excess of 200 community consultations in preliminary scheduling of meeting up until the end of September. 2020 is set to be another busy year for the NLC, consulting with their people about third proposals affecting their land in the bush.
