Northern Territory Administrator visits Jabiru

12 August 2022

On Thursday 11 August, Jabiru had the privilege of welcoming Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran, the Administrator of the Northern Territory to town.
The Administrator spent the day on Mirarr country visiting with community and business leaders from the region.
The purpose of this visit to Jabiru was to see first-hand the great work local organisations are achieving in their commitment to Jabiru’s future.
A collaborative effort that ensured the Administrator’s visit encompassed a range of activities and sectors in Jabiru.
The first stop was the Marrawuddi Arts and Culture Centre where The Administrator was met by Traditional Owners, local artists and the Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation team.
The Administrator toured the Ranger mine rehabilitation site and visited the proposed locations of the new health clinic, the Bininj Resource Centre and the beautification projects completed by West Arnhem Regional Council.
On the agenda was a visit to Jabiru Area School and Djibdidjidi College to engage with students and speak with Caulfield Grammar School on their operations and involvement with Djibdidjidi College.
In the afternoon Jabiru Kabolkmakmen hosted the Administrator and a gathering of local businesses in the Future of Jabiru Display space.
This was an exciting networking event for Jabiru businesses to showcase what they have achieved together.
Last but not least, a visit to Ubirr where Parks Australia arranged a guided sunset tour by Traditional Owners.
This was the Administrator’s first visit to Ubirr, which no doubt left a lasting impression.
