The swimming pool at the Gunbalanya Sports and Social Club can now be used by the Youth Development team, after members of the West Arnhem Regional Council youth team completed swimming and lifesaving certificates. Youth Development Coordinator Sharna Cropley said the pool would be used to to run regular swimming sessions for young people.

Along with Youth Development Trainees Dylan Cooper and Jayden Dempsey, Sharna completed her Bronze Medallion in a training course at Jabiru Pool in November last year. For Sharna and Dylan it was ‘updating’ their existing Bronze Medallion, while for Jayden it was his first time attempting it, which he passed.

“We also did the course with Ron and new lifeguard John from Maningrida Pool,” Sharna said. “A big thank you to Rebecca from Royal Lifesaving NT for running a rigorous training program, and equipping us all with this very important skill.”
