Practical support for Maningrida residents

13 March 2020

Orange Sky has been providing free mobile laundry facilities in partnership with Mala'la Health Service since the end of January this year (pictured above).
This partnership is valuable for supporting the Maningrida community in a really practical way.
A team of local Community Workers from Mala'la have received training in operating the service and van.
The workers are providing shifts at different locations in the five suburbs in Maningrida. In six weeks, they have provided around 40 separate shifts at different locations and supported people in the community to complete over 380 loads of washing. This is around a huge 5700 kilograms of washing.
They look forward to continuing this partnership and practical support in Maningrida.
Orange Sky's mission is to positively connect communities through free mobile laundry and shower services for people doing it tough.
Over the last five years, Orange Sky Australia have washed over 1.3 million kilograms of laundry, provided more than 13,000 showers and, most importantly, have been part of 233,000 hours of genuine and non-judgemental conversation.
This positive action comes about following the study by Menzies School of Health Research which revealed children in the West Arnhem Land community of Maningrida and its homelands suffer the highest known rates of rheumatic heart disease in the world.
