Dreamtime Solutions has been busy delivering unique training for sewing and craft projects to Indigenous communities, including Gunbalanya and Minjilang, in partnership with Network Providers and Government Agencies.
Recently, the ladies of Gunbalanya who have been actively involved in this activity in partnership with RISE, successfully finished their second order of 50 bags for the Health Clinic Vaccination Program.
These bags will be filled with all sorts of goodies and given to the children receiving vaccinations, and are a huge hit as they know the ladies have hand painted and sewn them especially for them.
The next vaccination is taking place on August 22 and 23 at the child family centre where these 50 bags will be handed out.
One hundred per cent of the funds from the sale of these bags go back to the ladies to purchase food and necessities, whilst engaging in the activity.
Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) has also supported the program recently with a $2000 donation to purchase three brand new sewing machines and four hard top tables, which were much needed to help continue with the numbers participating.
This has helped immensely with the ladies being able to make up the bags much quicker without having to wait for a machine and they look forward to strengthening the relationship over time and working together on future projects.
Meanwhile, the ladies in Minjilang have also been keeping busy learning to sew and using different techniques involved.
Currently, they are working on appliqué techniques with the aim of selling bags and other products also, outside the community in the not too distant future.
All products will be available for purchase through the website and will be continually updated as skills/techniques progress.
The goal of Dreamtime Solutions is to empower the women in these communities, enabling them to gain skills to make and create garments/items for sale that will help them become independent and create their own enterprise within, improving their financial situation and security.
