Recycling initiative in Jabiru putting smiles on students' faces

08 March 2018

Connie Norrie has brought happiness to many young people overseas all through her continued recycling efforts within the Jabiru community.
Connie is behind a valuable fundraising initiative called ‘gift giving’ which involves raising money through recycling to purchase equipment for students who attend a primary school based in the Philippines.
By collecting recycled goods over the past 12 months in Jabiru, Connie raised enough funds to purchase supplies for the Grade One and Two students of the same school Connie attended during her schooling days.
The donation included nearly 100 school bags, one for each of the students, as well as a notebook, paper, crayons, pencils and umbrellas.
Connie travelled to the Philippines earlier this month to personally distribute the bags during a special presentation to the very happy students.
Connie described the students’ reactions as “excited and happy” when they received their gift, with the principal equally appreciative of Connie’s kind gesture.
To top it off, Connie also kindly donated a meal for each of the students after the presentations.
In return, the school awarded Connie two certificates to thank her for her generous efforts.
Connie said helping the school makes her very happy and she is already in the process of collecting more recycled goods to raise money and purchase supplies for a special children’s school in the same town.
Connie also wished to thank those in the Jabiru community who have helped with her recycling efforts.
