Supporting National Reconciliation Week

12 June 2019

The Jabiru community supported National Reconciliation Week (NRW) from May 27 to June 3 with a number of events held throughout the week.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
To show support for the week and spread awareness about the meaning of NRW, West Arnhem Regional Council, Energy Resources of Australia and the Department of the Environment and Energy hosted a community barbecue and information stall in the town plaza on Thursday, 30 May.
This event was greatly supported with a huge turn out of both local residents and tourists to the region.
Two AFL twilight matches were also played on June 3, in recognition of National Reconciliation Week, with a combination of Jabiru and Gunbalanya community members involved.
This event was well-received by all and it was good to see community members getting together.
A big thank you must go to WARC, ERA and Department of the Environment and Energy for organising the barbecue, Richard from Stars for driving the games, Richard and Micka for umpiring and Joe from Clontarf for bringing the Gunbalanya boys over.
