Taste of Kakadu celebrates traditional food and culture

14 June 2018

The popular A Taste of Kakadu festival was held in May with a program celebrating traditional food and culture.
Local and international visitors travelled to Kakadu National Park to be part of the festival which featured more than 70 interactive events, including cooking demonstrations, guided bush tucker talks, sunset cruises and weaving workshops.
A Taste of Kakadu opened with a celebration at Bowali Visitor Centre featuring the Man Me art exhibition, traditional dance and a musical performance from award-winning singer/songwriter Shellie Morris.
Ground oven cook ups were particularly popular with visitors, with the Hunter Family Feast demonstrating how a ground oven is prepared before visitors returned to dine on barramundi, buffalo
and yams.
Other highlights from the 10 day festival included Kakadu Kitchen’s guided bush tucker walks at Patonga Homestead; a degustation dinner with Clayton Donovan, Australia’s first hatted Indigenous chef, at The Croc; an interactive masterclass and a kids’ mini-masterchef event with chef Zach Green from Elijah’s Kitchen; and the stunning pop-up dining event Fervor, which this year was held at Anbangbang Billabong.
Australia’s premier Indigenous food festival A Taste of Kakadu will return next year from 10-19 May, 2019.
