Gunbalanya will launch its Australia Day celebrations at 12 noon on Saturday 24 January with a community netball exhibition match at the Youth Centre courts. The main event, a football scratch match at Gunbalanya Oval, will follow at 1pm with an Australia Day community barbecue to follow. All are welcome!Read more

Santa Claus carved up the sand during the Jabiru Fire Station Christmas Lolly Run, with some hot moves to traditional music at Manabadurma (Town Camp). A mighty thumbs up to the crew from the Jabiru Fire Station, who helped Santa get his sleigh out and about to kids in the streets of Jabiru and the nearby community.Read more

THE Warruwi Mini Festival very nearly didn’t go as planned on 26 November, what with rain, power cuts, and a box of barbecue sausages literally up in the air until the last minute. But West Arnhem’s fantastic community spirit brought it all together in the end.Read more

A GROUP of women in Gunbalanya is busy getting a fledgling business off the ground, making candles, tie-dyed shirts, soap, patchwork and jewellery. The women, who have named their group ‘Strong Women Working Together’, got together in June this year to work on creating and selling their quality products to locals at market days and from the church hall.Read more

Sea Swift’s MV Malu Trader, a working cargo barge, operates a weekly freight service between Darwin and Gove, plus remote coastal communities including Groote Eylandt and Maningrida.Read more

THE NT Grants Commission (NTGC) took its show on the road in West Arnhem recently with a three-day tour of remote communities. The main purpose of their visit was to discuss funding allocation with the West Arnhem Regional Council and communities. Whilst the NTGC was interested in getting a range of views from various people in the West Arnhem communities, it was most interested to hear the views of the Indigenous elected ward members, Local Authority members and community members.Read more
