ANZAC Day commemorations across the region

09 May 2023

Around 25 locals attended the Warruwi  ANZAC Day dawn service which concluded with about 4 minutes to spare before the storm hit.
The Army Reserve across the top end is NORFORCE and is mainly Indigenous and pictured are local members Ida and Misman.
The event included a speech by Sam Robinson, wreaths presented by Bruce Reid, Clinic Manager from Red Lily Health and Misman Kris and Ida Waianga from NORFORCE and a poem ‘Animals Lost in War’ read by Andrea Hocking.

The Jabiru community commemorated ANZAC Day in the early hours of April 25.
The morning was supported by service men and women, the visiting Australian Defence Force personnel, NORFORCE, 72 Army Cadet Unit – Arnhem Land, members of the Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services and special guests.
The service included commemorative wreath laying, prayers, flag raising and a speech by guest speaker Australian Army Cadets National Commander Brigadier Ben Slaughter.
West Arnhem Regional Council wishes to acknowledge the support of the Army Cadets, the Police and Jabiru Fire Station, Andy Ralph, Peter Keepence, and Sodexo for the ANZAC Day biscuits.

In Maningrida, the morning of ANZAC Day started with a drizzle of rain and a lovely service attended by many people.
Afterwards, attendees enjoyed bacon and egg rolls prepared by WARC staff members, Debbie and Rani, and ANZAC biscuits cooked by Debbie and Cathy with tea and coffee.
While eating our bacon and egg rolls the skies opened up with heavy rain just to remind us what the soldier went through.
