ON 6 March the Northern Territory Electoral Commissioner announced Captain Brown from Minjilang elected unopposed as a new Councillor for West Arnhem Regional Council, representing Barrah Ward. Well-known in Minjilang, Captain Brown was born at nearby Cape Don, attending the local school in Minjilang before travelling to Kormilda College in Darwin to complete his secondary education.

Along with his partner of more than 26 years, Jessie, he strongly believes family is a main priority. Together he and Jessie have three adult children and two grandchildren. A man of the people, Captain knows Barrah Ward well and says he strongly encourages them to bring issues to him which he might be able to champion on their behalf.

A strong believer in education, he has concerns that unless schools teach children in their early years in a bi-lingual approach, they will be at risk of losing their heritage and culture. Captain Brown was an Elected Member with the former Minjilang Community Council, and knows that this experience will enable him to ably represent the concerns of his constituents.

He intends to take an active interest in Council matters, especially those that impact upon the people of Warruwi and Minjilang.
