Fencing projects under way

11 November 2016

GN_Warruwi Fencing West Arnhem Regional Council project team Ralstin Djorlom, Jason Stayt, Robbie Djorlom, Baden Golder, Glen Wilson, Darryl Roberts and Josh Keen are currently installing 4000 metres of stock fence around the Warruwi airstrip. The Minjilang airstrip will also be fully fenced in the near future.

The airport at Warruwi, on South Goulburn Island, is having a facelift with over 4000 metres of new stock fence currently being installed around the busy airstrip.
Funded by the Northern Territory Government’s Department of Infrastructure, the project will see West Arnhem Regional Council installing 4,172 metres of stock fence and 63 metres of domestic chain wire fence to replace the existing aged fencing.
The project, which will also be carried out at the Minjilang Airport on Croker Island, has also included important on-the-job training for the project team and includes four indigenous staff working in both locations.
West Arnhem Regional Council Asset Coordinator Buildings Clem Beard said the new fencing will increase security and safety of all airstrip users, reduce the potential of wandering stock on the airstrip and will require less maintenance work in the future at both Warruwi and Minjilang.
He also said the crew have been working tirelessly to achieve 200 metres of fencing per day in intense weather conditions.
Works at Minjilang are scheduled to commence soon and will include 2,357 metres of stock fence and 214 metres of domestic chain wire mesh around the airstrip.
