Great turn out to holiday activities in Maningrida

10 February 2017

Daily sports activities including softball were on offer during the school holidays in Maningrida. The holiday program was very popular among the youth.

West Arnhem Regional Council’s Sport & Recreation team joined with GREATS Youth Service to deliver one of the most comprehensive holiday programs in Maningrida over the December and January holiday period.
The Youth service ran a daily drop-in, disco, a Christmas party, slip n slide and bush trips. There were also heaps of daily sports activities including basketball, cricket, soccer, skipping, hoola hoops, softball and lots more.
The swimming pool was also open 6 days a week with extended hours for the kids to enjoy.
More than 35 young people took part each in daily sports and youth service programs and the swimming pool attracted up to 60 kids a day.
Sport and Recreation Coordinator Seide Ramadani said GREATS Youth Service puts a lot of effort into ensuring there is strong coverage over this critical holiday period.
“We were delighted to host some active fun program. Each day the kids would ask us ‘what’s on tomorrow’ and they were great, helping us set up, clean up and pack away at the activities,” she said.
