Minjilang thanks retiring community safety officer

Retiring Community Safety Officer Charlie Nawindal has been thanked for his long-standing service with the Night Patrol team and as a role model in the Minjilang community.

West Arnhem Regional Council staff and Night Patrol members farewelled Charlie with a celebration in Minjilang on Friday, July 15, where he was also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from Community Safety Senior Officer Joanne Cooper.

For more than eight years, Charlie has been a well-respected member of the community, a mentor to the night patrol staff and has been proactive in ensuring children go to school and the community
was safe.

Charlie is known for his big smile and helping children and the community, where no task was too big or small, including walking foot patrols and vehicle patrol in dark areas to ensure the community is safe.

Night Patrol Coordinator Greg Sheldon said Charlie is a pillar of strength and a role model to many staff and the community.

“He has sacrificed his time, patience, endurance, professionalism and cultural leader experiences with many,” Greg said.

“We haven’t got enough words to say ‘thanks’ for all the sacrifices and hard, dedicated work that he has done.”
Community Services Manager Natalie Bellew, Community Services Manager in Minjilang Candice Siedler-Twine and Greg said Charlie will be missed by all.
