NT Travelling Film Festival in Maningrida

03 December 2021

West Arnhem Regional Council were able to facilitate the NT Film Festival on Sunday, 28 November, after a few changes to the date. Maningrida community members were able to view a range of films from across the Northern Territory, from Top End down to Desert Country.
The Festival was an opportunity to learn about dugong hunting, stories of silk and generational learning of culture in Utopia.
The highlight of the Festival was the Babbarra Women’s Centre short film (snapshots below right), which featured in the Water Tower Series in Darwin earlier this year. The screening of Mabbularr (calm water, Ndjeppana language) was made by Joy Garlbin and Josephine James from Babbarra Women’s Centre.
It shows the Kunibidji story of the marladdja (sea turtle) and the marnandjubba (cowtail stingray). Thank you also to Joseph Ditto for helping to share the story.
Thank you all who attended, and we would like to extend our appreciation to those who assisted with the event.
