Staff and children at a going-away morning tea for Jabiru Childcare Centre Manager Lare Stanton (at right, with bub). Lare is moving to Darwin and we wish her and her family all the best for the future.

WHEN Lare Stanton first came to work at the Jabiru Childcare Centre her son Richard was just 6 months old. Richard is now 15, with a brother, Bruce, aged 12.

After raising two sons in Jabiru, Lare is now leaving her position as Childcare Centre Manager to move to Darwin. But she will be back.

“Jabiru holds fond memories for me and I will miss this town dearly and will be back to visit,” she says.

“I’ve been here since 2000, when I came and worked as a cook with childcare. I love working in childcare. I love the chaos. I love working with the children, and watching them grow and learn.”

Lare will continue her career in Darwin as part of the Kormilda College Early Years Team, with her boys attending the same school.

“Hopefully in the future, an opportunity back in West Arnhem may arise, but until then it’s high school and football for me, in support of my children, and I will see you all out and about in Darwin,” she said.

“I want to thank everyone for their support over the years, including the Jabiru Area School and the Clontarf team for the support they have given my boys, and also to the Jabiru Childcare staff and the families.

“I love this town, the close-knit community where we all support each other, and everyone does things together to make it good for the kids.

“I have enjoyed my time living in Jabiru for the last 15 years and working at West Arnhem Regional Council for nearly 8 years, and am grateful for the opportunities and support throughout my time in Jabiru.

“I would like to thank you for your support and take this opportunity to thank the staff and team at the childcare for their support and great work they have been doing.

“We have implemented changes to increase the quality of Jabiru Childcare Centre service ‒ as it is an asset to Jabiru families ‒ and I have every confidence that the service will shine at the next quality assessment.

“A special ‘thank you’ to (Assistant Manager) Alleisha Woodward for all her ongoing support. I will miss all the children, families and staff at the Council and Childcare and in Jabiru.”
