WEST Arnhem Regional Council will mark the centenary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli with a Centenary March in Jabiru and RAAF flypasts over four communities. In a special event organised by the Council and the Australian Defence Force, three RAAF AF/A-18A Hornets will fly low and fast over Anzac Day services in Jabiru, Gunbalanya, Minjilang and Warruwi from 8.30am Saturday, 25 April 2015.Read more

AN elder living in Gunbalanya in West Arnhem been awarded an Order of Australia medal for his work in the area during the Mission era. Timothy Nadjowh liaised with church missionary societies and was a point of contact for Aboriginal people between the 1950s and 1980s.Read more

Students came flooding back to Gunbalanya School this term earlier than other schools as part of an initiative to help boost attendance rates. With East Alligator River on the rise, the students are effectively “locked in” at Gunbalanya, and school Co-Principal Sue Trimble says this means a positive start.Read more

Jabiru Bombers full-forward Scott Maralngurra from Gunbalanya has earned himself a strong cult following in the AFL NT. With his straightforward style of solid marking and accurate kicking, he has helped the Bombers out more than once in the closing minutes of a match. The swimming pool at the Gunbalanya Sports and Social Club can now be used by the Youth Development team, after members of the West Arnhem Regional Council youth team completed swimming and lifesaving certificates.Read more

Gunbalanya will launch its Australia Day celebrations at 12 noon on Saturday 24 January with a community netball exhibition match at the Youth Centre courts. The main event, a football scratch match at Gunbalanya Oval, will follow at 1pm with an Australia Day community barbecue to follow. All are welcome!Read more

A GROUP of women in Gunbalanya is busy getting a fledgling business off the ground, making candles, tie-dyed shirts, soap, patchwork and jewellery. The women, who have named their group ‘Strong Women Working Together’, got together in June this year to work on creating and selling their quality products to locals at market days and from the church hall.Read more

INJALAK Arts and Crafts’ 25th birthday was literally the icing on the cake for Indigenous culture and traditional arts in West Arnhem this year. A large and enthusiastic crowd turned out for the celebrations in Gunbalanya on Saturday 1 November, enjoying bush tucker cookups, traditional dancing and music, and having a go at everything from damper making and screenprinting to spear-throwing.
