THE two-way radio crackles with the news that a person has been found unconscious in a smoke-filled, burning building. Keeping in close contact with one another, two firefighters in breathing apparatus work to facilitate a rescue, moving close to the ground to avoid the stifling heat. The visibility inside the burning office in Jabiru is zero - as you would expect if you are wearing a blindfold! Thankfully, this is just an exercise, part of the Jabiru Fire Brigade's ongoing training.Read more

WEST Arnhem Regional Council will mark the centenary of the Anzac landings at Gallipoli with a Centenary March in Jabiru and RAAF flypasts over four communities. In a special event organised by the Council and the Australian Defence Force, three RAAF AF/A-18A Hornets will fly low and fast over Anzac Day services in Jabiru, Gunbalanya, Minjilang and Warruwi from 8.30am Saturday, 25 April 2015.Read more

CHIEF Minister Adam Giles says plans are underway to build a cyclone shelter at Warruwi in the wake of two evacuations since February. On Monday 23 March, 427 Warruwi residents were flown to Darwin on 51 separate flights as Cyclone Nathan headed towards the West Arnhem coast. This followed a similar evacuation on 19 February prior to Cyclone Lam.Read more

RESIDENTS of Jabiru and Gunbalanya had a chance to share ideas with their local Member of Parliament recently when Member for Arafura Francis Xavier Kurrupuwu dropped in for a visit. Speaking in Jabiru on Tuesday 17 March, Mr Kurrupuwu said he was calling for ideas from people on what they needed in their towns.Read more

DANIEL Wilson and Justin Cooper from West Arnhem College Jabiru are getting a taste of the big time, playing for Katherine Big River Hawks in the NTFL Under-18 competition.
