MEMBERS of the Telstra team who visited Jabiru on Thursday 7 May say they were knocked out by the turnout and the friendliness of the residents. “The people of Jabiru were keen to talk to us about their town and the work they did out here,” one team member said. West Arnhem Regional Council Head of Corporate Services Valentin Markez spoke with the visiting Telstra techs about the possibility of hooking up West Arnhem communities to fibre optic broadband.Read more

Black Arm Band return to the West Arnhem communities of Gunbalanya and Maningrida this month as part of its NT Remote Community Tour. The band delivered music workshops in Gunbalanya and Maningrida in late 2013, and although the concerts in Gunbalanya and Maningrida were delayed, Black Arm Band is delighted to now be presenting the large-scale and highly acclaimed production ‘dirtsong’ in the ‘Country’ that inspired its very creation. This journey for the work is what the original creators had always envisaged.Read more

It was a huge turnout for Anzac Day in Jabiru, as residents arrived in droves to commemorate the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, one of the most significant events in our national calendar. In his opening address at the Dawn Service, West Arnhem Councillor Ralph Blyth spoke of the terrible odds the Anzac troops faced coming ashore on that fateful day in Turkey, Sunday 25 April 1915.Read more
