Bininj Kunwok extends online dictionary

06 December 2019

New features continue to be added to the Bininj Kunwok online dictionary,
www.njamed.com.
This month video embeds have been added, so learners can hear words in Kunwinjku and related dialects and see them in context.
Many videos are from the Language Centre’s ‘Karriyolyolme’ YouTube channel, as well as other public sources.
Over 50 words now have videos on the site - you can see examples if you search for ‘duruk’ (dog), ‘barrk’ (Black Wallaroo) or ‘nawaran’ (Oenpelli Python).

On the topic of learning language, the dictionary’s editor and Language Centre chairperson Jill Nganjmirra had this message for everyone going into the new year:

Ngad nawu ngarridurrkmirri kore Bininj Kunwok Regional Language Centre, ngarrikarremarnbom bu nabuyika mandjewk nawu 2020, wanjh ngarridjare bu ngarrbenbukkan Kunwinjku ba kabirriborlbme, bu kabirribimnan, kabirribimngeybun, dja kabirribimbun.
Mah, kaluk ngundinan ngudberre mandjewk nabuyika. Bobo!

All of us working at the Bininj Kunwok Regional Language Centre have big plans for next year, 2020, we’d like to teach people Kunwinjku so they can learn, by reading, reading
aloud, and writing.
OK, we’ll see you all next year, bye for now!
