Celebrating together as strong women

13 March 2020

On Friday, March 6, West Arnhem Regional Council’s Youth, Sport and Recreation team in Maningrida joined with Remote School Attendance Scheme (RSAS) and the Aged Care team at Malala to celebrate International Women’s Day.
This event highlighted the efforts of women in the community and was held after school at Aged Care which is a beautiful location that overlooks the main beach in Maningrida. All those who attended had the opportunity to sit under the verandah together and had their face painted, nails manicured, made jewellery, flower crowns and painted t-shirts.
While there was a lot of mess, there was also a lot of laughter and happy faces.
While everyone was occupied by all of the activities, the Aged Care Staff were busy in the kitchen and at the fire pit cooking up buffalo, fish, salad and potatoes. Once the food was ready, everyone sat down together and enjoyed a big healthy meal sourced locally by BAC staff.
The Maningrida Girls Dance Troupe also performed at the International Women’s Day Luncheon that was ran by Malala at Dhukurrdji Lodge. They performed in front of about 50 women from the community including family members and professionals.
Everyone had a fantastic afternoon pampering themselves and celebrating together as strong, successful women!
