Community effort to replace pump equipment

A new irrigation pump used to water the community sporting ovals has been installed in the Gunbalanya billabong.
Following an unfortunate incident which left the previous pump and pontoon damaged by fire, it was imperative that this equipment be replaced to maintain the sporting ovals.
With football and outdoor ball sports very important to the Gunbalanya community, the Gunbalanya Local Authority strongly supported this project and allocated $20,000 to repair the pontoon and pump.  
Given the extent of the damage, it was deemed more economical to replace the pontoon and pump with new items.  
West Arnhem Regional Council’s works crew in Gunbalanya were heavily involved in the design and installation of the new pontoon and pump with everyone pitching in to do there bit.   
The new pontoon can now be safely and easily removed at short notice.
