Community shows support at Jabiru Bombers home game

15 February 2019

The Jabiru Bombers staged their annual Sponsors Day at Brockman Oval on Saturday, February 9. The event was organised by the hardworking Jabiru Bombers Committee and was wonderfully supported by the Jabiru community. Festivities included face painting, live music, cooling hose downs from the Jabiru firies and a blow up water slide and basketball ring on what was a typical hot and sticky Jabiru afternoon.
And then of course there was the main event - the Jabiru Bombers final home game versing arch rival Banks Bulldogs.
In what has been a difficult few weeks off the field for the Jabiru Bombers football Club, it was heartening to see such tremendous support shown by the residents and sponsors of the club. Representatives from sponsors Intract, ERA, The Croc Hotel, Sodexo and Veolia were there and I`m sure they would have enjoyed the festivities and the undeniable Bombers hospitality.

In terms of the footy - well it was a tough day at the office for the understrength Bombers who were 5 goals down at quarter time as the Bulldogs showed that they had come to play. By half time the margin had blown out to 50 points as the Bulldogs led 9.8.58 to the Bombers 1.2.8.
The Bombers did manage to stem the bleeding in the third quarter as the Bulldogs kicked 3 goals to 1 but the margin was an unassailable 59 points.
Nevertheless, the Bombers fought it out to the end managing to outscore the Bulldogs 5 goals to 1 to lose by 38 points. Special mention to Mark Ellis who played his 100th game – well done Mark!
Final score: Banks 13.9.87 defeated Jabiru 7.7.49.
Jabiru goal kickers: Goal Kickers: J. Dawson-Smith 3, B. Whitehurst 2, T. Delphine 2
Best players: Matt Broster, Richard Lindner, Bradley Gaylard, Craig Bangarr, Jade Lamilami, Baden Thorne
