Over 70 students, staff, family and community members gathered at the Crocodile Hotel to celebrate the achievements of Year 12 students at Jabiru Area School, on Thursday, October 13.
The evening was extra special for two students, Justin Cooper and Rodney Nagawalli, who have already graduated.
The celebration was also an opportunity to recognise the achievements of students who have finished Year 12 and to provide support to those who are almost there.
Assistant Principal Matt Woodward spoke highly of the efforts of the young men.
“We are enormously proud of Justin and Rodney and the commitment they made to their studies over the years. Both of these young men are outstanding role models to younger family members and to the community as a whole,” he said.
“It was an incredibly positive experience and I am sure that those Year 12s who are almost there will take the support they received and run to the finish line.”
“We also gathered to say farewell to another highly respected student Shaun Wilson who is leaving for training in the Army. He has made the most of his opportunities and this year sees him graduate and join the Army which is a fantastic outcome.”
Matt said 2016 sees Jabiru Area School have more potential graduates and indigenous graduates than any time in its 30 year history.
“Certainly cause for celebration,” he said.
The Jabiru community was represented at the dinner with staff from ERA, Children’s Ground, Parks, West Arnhem Regional Council and many family members.
