Jabiru Area School shares messages of hope with community

03 April 2020

Jabiru Area School students are learning about new ways to connect with each other whilst staying safe and keeping healthy.
Teachers are frequently encouraging students to wash their hands each day and maintaining distance between themselves, teachers and peers.
A number of teachers also thought it would be beneficial for the students and staff to come together to make a banner to encourage the community to reconnect with the new health and safety rules.
Over the course of the week, the Transition, Year 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6 students individually painted their hand and placed a handprint onto the banner which transformed into a work of art.
On National Day of Hope, the Year 5/6 students, as the leaders of Primary School, hung the banner with the special message for their school and local community to read – ‘Physically Distant, Socially Connected’.
The Year 5/6 students felt this message highlights the importance to stay connected during these uncertain times whilst following social distancing recommendations.
The students really enjoyed this project with Estelle Thompson saying, “We
are resilient!”
Ryan McLean said, “Keep up the social distancing and we'll get through this,” and Leah Tambling saying, “We are here to support you and we'll get through it together!”
There were also messages to the wider community with K'Sharnae Clancy saying, “Don't be worried. Just follow the rules to stay healthy, happy and safe.”
Finally the teachers also wanted to say, “The bubble of our community is the safest place to be!” said Miss Madison Gadd, and Miss Kirsten Morey added, “Keep safe and be kind - we can do this together!”
