Jabiru beautification projects finalised

24 February 2022

The final features of the Jabiru Beautification Project has now been complete.
Over the last 12 months, West Arnhem Regional Council has rolled out the multiple projects carried out around the community, to support local tourism and enhance the visitor experience as Jabiru transitions to a tourism economy.
These beautification works, funded by the Director of National Parks and Northern Territory Government, were carried out at a number of specific locations including the Jabiru Pool, the water tower, town plaza, Jabiru Lake and Bininj Kunwok Centre.
Specifically, the main projects were:
- Jabiru Pool upgrades including a new shade structure, splash pad, jumping pillow, new barbecues, seating, a monorail, electronic message board and playground equipment
- Beautification of the town plaza including landscaping and painting
- An incredible mural painted on the 34 metre town water tower
- Upgrades to the Jabiru Lake Park with additional seating
- Exterior upgrades at the Bininj Kunwok Centre including disabled carpark, new sand pit, exterior hard shade structures, chairs and tables
- Construction of the new-shared facilities carpark, between Marrawuddi Gallery and the Bininj Kunwok Centre
The final piece of infrastructure to the Jabiru water tower, including new lighting fixtures, was installed recently to complete this project.
This compliments the larger-than-life mural on the 34 metre high tower which was painted by talented artists from Proper Creative Jesse Bell and David Collins.
The artists worked alongside artists from Marrawuddi Gallery who shared ideas and gathered images for the mural.

With the mural and lighting show complete, this major tourism card for the town can be viewed at all times of the day and night.
West Arnhem Regional Council wishes to thank the Northern Territory Government and Director of National Parks for funding these projects.
