Jabiru raises awareness of mental health

16 October 2018

Community groups and organisations came together to put on the third annual Mental Health Week in Jabiru recently.
The week incorporated a variety of activities including a community barbecue and coffee, a physical activity at the school, a walk around the lake, a deadly dads drive-through breakfast, sessions with Relationships Australia and a movie night screening ‘Zach’s Ceremony’.
The weeks’ activities were attended by a great number of people including local community members and visitors, and organisers tried to make the week diverse with plenty of different activities to appeal to as many as possible.
Many different organisations and individuals got involved to make the week a success with activities they wanted to run and build on from the previous two years.
It was great to see people attending the activities and sharing with others what postive mental health means to them, and there were a lot of smiles especially from the school kids at the pumper jumpers’ event.
There was also a strong message that ‘working on your mental health doesn’t have to be hard!’
Organisers wish to thank Hall Contracting Pty Ltd for their generous donation to fund some of the activities and made them possible to run, and a special ‘thank you’ to Marrawuddi Gallery for screen printing the Mental Health Week bags. Organisers are looking forward to more people coming forward with ideas to run activities for next year.  Louisa and Louise from CatholicCare want to thank everyone in Jabiru for getting out and having a go for Mental Health Week!
