TWO young students from Maningrida, Calum and Sheldon, have embarked on their secondary education at the prestigious Scots College in Sydney.

The two high achievers, part of the college’s Indigenous Education Program, recently attended a Scots College mentor weekend at Calburra Beach in NSW.

Indigenous Education Executive Officer at Scots, Jonathan Samengo, says the college expects a great deal from the boys.

“They are not here to be celebrated for simply ‘staying the course’ to Year 12,” he said.

“This would not be accepted from any other boy at Scots and therefore it will not be accepted from an Indigenous Scots boy either.

“They are here to be their best. To achieve at the highest level. To find what they are good at and master it.

“I have no doubt that at least one of these three boys will be made a Prefect, Head of House or other leadership role.

“It won’t always be easy for these boys, but they are not just ordinary boys. They have chosen this challenge, are committed to it and have impressed us in a way that 30 other hopeful applicants haven’t.”

West Arnhem Regional Council congratulates Calum and Sheldon and we wish them all the best for their future education.
