Maningrida Community Pool is now open and has never looked better following the extensive upgrades to the facility by West Arnhem Regional Council.
The pool reopened on Wednesday, September 7 with around 80 Maningrida community members visiting the facility to see the improvements.
West Arnhem Regional Council Sport and Recreation Coordinator Seide Ramadani said Maningrida children have been counting down the days eagerly awaiting the reopening announcement.
“We can’t wait to kick start the swimming activities again. I’m sure everyone will love the improvements and we look forward to welcoming the community back to the pool,” she said.
West Arnhem Regional Council Asset Manager Istvan Nemeth said the upgrade was a huge project and quite challenging with a number of existing issues identified during the removal of the concrete apron in July.
“We decided to demolish the concrete apron around the pool and pour a new reinforced concrete apron,” he said.
The project also included significant excavation works and backfilling with stabilising sand before pouring the new concrete.
Landscaping works were also carried out with the shade sails, which were originally installed by Central Industries, reinstalled over the facility.
WARC Regional Manager Service Delivery Gordon Smith said the pool is a great asset to the Maningrida community and hopes community members enjoy the improvements made.
Gordon also wished to thank WARC staff Istvan Nemeth, Mark Ellenden, Garry Stover and Ron Gray for their work on the project.
These works were made possible by proactive members of the Maningrida Local Authority and funding from the Department of Local Government and Community Services.
