Meeting with the minsters

A crowd of 60 members of the public attended the community meeting of West Arnhem Regional Council joined by the Northern Territory Government Cabinet and Labor Members of Parliament on Monday, November 14.
Held at the Jabiru Community Hall, the meeting gave West Arnhem Councillors and the public the opportunity to speak directly with Chief Minister Michael Gunner and his Cabinet.
West Arnhem Regional Council Mayor Lothar Siebert said it was a great opportunity for Council to speak directly to the NT ministers about the issues facing West Arnhem communities.
“Council wishes to thank Chief Minister Michael Gunner and the ministers for visiting our communities, and we look forward to working closely together in the future,” Mayor Siebert said.
Questions asked by West Arnhem Councillors related to the future of Jabiru, fracking, local employment, remote housing, road and building upgrades and improvements to sporting facilities and barge landing upgrades.
The meeting then took questions from the floor giving community members the opportunity to raise issues of concern directly with the ministers.
NT Government Ministers and Labor MP’S present included Chief Minister Michael Gunner, Deputy Chief Minister Nichole Manison, Minister Natasha Fyles, Minister Gerry McCarthy, Minister Lauren Moss, Minister Eva Lawler, Minister Dale Wakefield, Member for Karama Ngaree Ah Kit, Member for Fong Lim Jeffrey Collins, Member for Arafura Lawrence Costa, Member for Stuart Scott MCConnell, Member for Katherine Sandra Nelson, Member for Arnhem Selena Uibo and Member for Sanderson Kathryn Worden.
The meeting was followed by a community barbecue which presented even more opportunities for the public to talk one-on-one with their parliamentarians and local representatives.
