Upcoming NT Local Government Election

In August this year, residents in the West Arnhem region will get a chance to elect councillors who will represent them from August 2021 to September 2025. To take part in the elections as a voter or potential councillor, please take note of the following important dates:  

Nominations open: Friday, 16 July
Close of electoral roll: Tuesday, 27 July at 5pm
Close of nominations: Thursday, 5 August at 12 noon
Early voting commences: Monday, 16 August
Election day: Saturday, 28 August

The Northern Territory Electoral Commission (NTEC) is responsible for organising Local Government elections in the NT and more key dates that are specific to each West Arnhem community will be confirmed and communicated soon.
In the meantime, please remember that:

1. All candidates must lodge a completed nomination form after the call for nominations on Friday, 16 July and before the close of nominations at 12 noon on Thursday, 5 August 2021. The NTEC will make public declarations of nominations and draw for positions on the ballot paper soon after nominations close.  

2. The electoral roll closes at 5pm on Tuesday, 27 July. Your electoral enrolment must be correct so that you can vote for candidates from your community.
