Warruwi citizens thanked for their contributions to community

14 February 2019

West Arnhem Regional Council (WARC) hosted an awards ceremony to honour the recipients of the 2019 Citizen of the Year Awards recently. These awards recognise the outstanding work and contributions of citizens within the Warruwi community.
The award winners were Arthur Maralngurra, Relma Luta and Pauna Wees who have each shown tremendous character and leadership skills over the years.
They have displayed what it means to being a good Samaritan to the general public and their contributions to the community have certainly not gone unnoticed.
There was a great attendance at the awards ceremony which demonstrated that many community members wished to thank Arthur, Relma and Pauna and give them the recognition they truly deserve.
It was also nice for the community to nominate these three individuals and celebrate together as a community.

The WARC team would like to thank the school and all members of the community who attended the ceremony to show their support and helped to make this a special day for all.
WARC Acting Council Services Manager Shane Slavin said it was an amazing day celebrating the Citizen of the Year Awards.
“It’s the first time we have celebrated it here in Warruwi and I would like to thank the following people; Mobie Wees, Charles Opio, Bella Dawkins, Arthur Maralngurra, Punpun Wees for all the help on the ground, and behind the scenes, Heidi Walton, Sue Austin, John Thomas, Janelle Fletcher and Annie Luta. This day could not have happened without you guys,” he said.
“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and everyone has shown great community spirit and this is why I’m proud to be a part of this community of Warruwi.”
Congratulations once again to Arthur, Pauna and Relma.
