13 December 2016

WARC works crew Richard Narwirr, Albert Naruraidj, Alfred Gawaraidji and Terry Nami digging trenches in preparation for the wet season.

The Warruwi community, including West Arnhem Regional Council and Warruwi School took part in a community clean up last week as part of their cyclone season preparations.
WARC work crew staff have been busy for a number of weeks cleaning storm water drains, culverts and road shoulders as well as moving car bodies and a boat from town to the tip, cutting back overgrown trees and clearing debris up at the community tip.
The staff have also recently dug a number of trenches in the area as an effective way of controlling the build up of water near culverts.
West Arnhem Regional Council Council Services Manager Kupa Teao said, “It is important for residents to tidy up their yard and take advantage of WARC community clean up day in preparation of the cyclone season. One of several reasons for this is that it removes items which could become missiles in the event of a cyclone. WARC works crew are also tasked with ensuring the drains and culverts are free from any debris to prevent any build up of water during monsoon rains, especially in flood prone areas”.
The Warruwi School assisted with the community clean up with students and staff busy using helping hands to keep Warruwi community beautiful.
