Two West Arnhem high school students have just come one step closer to achieving their dreams after successfully graduating with their Year 12 certificate this week.
Maningrida School students Bernice Baker and Alishia Darcy have spent the last 12 years working towards this goal and they officially celebrated the achievement at their graduation ceremony held at the school on Tuesday, September 27 in front of their peers, teachers, families and friends.
Maningrida School Principal Miranda Watts said it is an amazing achievement for the young ladies.
“Maningrida School and community was very privileged to celebrate the successful graduation of Bernice and Alishia,” Miranda said.
“Both Alishia and Bernice have been students at Maningrida since preschool.
“The girls have worked very hard to complete their Year 12 Northern Territory Certificate of Education especially given that they both now have a child to take care of.”
Alishia and Bernice completed their final subject through attending the Families as First Program and used their learning in this area to complete a subject that allowed them to complete their final piece.
“The support that the girls received from their families and community was amazing and their own demonstration of perseverance and commitment was outstanding.
“Congratulations to both girls, the opportunity to complete Year 12 means that they have many different opportunities ahead of them.”
