Celebrating NAIDOC Week in 2022

NAIDOC Week events will kick off around the region on Sunday, 3 July, in celebration of this year’s theme ‘Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up’.
NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Around the West Arnhem region, service providers in Gunbalanya have put together a huge NAIDOC calendar with events occurring on Monday, 4 July.
The official events include: 
• Flag raising/opening ceremony and cultural dancing
• NAIDOC march up to oval (with banner)
• NAIDOC races  
• Adult sprint /kid sprints
• Bush tucker cook-up
• Spear throwing comp
• Best damper comp
• Tug of war battles camp vs camp adults tug of war and kids tug of war
• Closing of NAIDOC medals ceremony and annual tug of war cup winners
All are welcome to attend these free celebrations!
In Jabiru, NAIDOC Week will officially open with a Welcome to Country, flag raising ceremony and free community lunch on Monday, 4 July. 
This ceremony will take place in the Town Plaza from 12 noon.
The celebrations will continue on Wednesday, 6 July with a family fun day at the Jabiru Pool, followed by a movie night showing ‘Take Heart – The quest to rid the world of Rheumatic Heart Disease’ at the Library from 5.30pm.
On Thursday, there will be another movie screening of ‘Storm Boy’ at the Crocodile Hotel’s Jim Jim Room.
Finally, there will be the Elders Lunch (invitation only) at the Jabiru Library on Friday, 8 July.
Many organisations have contributed to these  Jabiru events and West Arnhem Regional Council wishes to acknowledge NIAA, Red Lily Health Board, Gagudju Association, Caulfield Grammar, Sodexo, Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel, Gundjeihmi Aboriginal Corporation, Marrawuddi, Northern Land Council, Jabiru Kabolkmakmen, Puma, IGA, Bininj Kunwok regional Language Centre and Warnbi Aboriginal Corporation.
