TWO graduates from West Arnhem College Gunbalanya School will be honoured in a special ceremony at Parliament House in Darwin this Friday, after taking out top training awards in the Northern Territory. Kirsty Garrnadj and Arijay Camp will travel to the Northern Territory Board of Studies Awards evening in Parliament House on Friday 14 February, with assistance from the West Arnhem Regional Council, who will fly the students from Gunbalanya to Jabiru. Arijay Camp won the NT School Based Apprentice of the Year Award. Kirsty Garnarrdj won the inaugural Karmi Sceney Indigenous Excellence and Leadership Award.Read more

WET season rains are having an impact on communities across West Arnhem, cutting roads and supplies of essential items. The road bridge across the Adelaide River on the Arnhem Highway has been out for a couple of weeks. Road closures have affected many business and postal services, with freight costs to Jabiru increasing a whopping 30 per cent. West Arnhem Regional Council Mayor Lothar Siebert said t he Northern Territory government should start looking at plans to minimise the impact of floodwaters. “We may have to consider seeking Federal Government assistance," Mayor Siebert said.Read more
